Cyberabad reports cyber fraud losses of Rs 104 crore in 2026

Hyderabad: Cyberabad region has recorded cyber fraud losses of around Rs 104 crore so far this year, prompting police to hold a coordination meeting with bankers to strengthen action against digital crimes.

Officials said victims lost a total of Rs 438 crore to cyber frauds in 2025 in Cyberabad.

During the meeting on Friday, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M Ramesh said cybercrime has become a major threat, with people being cheated through online investment scams, fake offers, cryptocurrency frauds and call centre scams. He stressed the need for stronger preventive measures and quicker coordination between banks and police.

Cybercrime DCP, T Sai Manohar highlighted delays in obtaining bank statements, KYC documents and freeze confirmations during investigations.

Officials also stressed strict monitoring of mule accounts and frozen bank accounts linked to cybercrime.

They urged banks to establish dedicated Cybercrime Response Desks with trained staff and updated nodal officer details to ensure faster communication and response in cyber fraud cases. Representatives from major banks attended the meeting.
